Ardian Lagman is an MEng student in the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto. Prior to his MEng, he received his BASc in Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Toronto (2021) and gained experience in a variety of fields. He has worked previously as a software validator for Welbilt Inc. and did his co-op as an R&D intern at ArcelorMittal-Dofasco. During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, he worked on personal projects such as the visualization of COVID-19 cases with Choropleth maps and the development of a Flutter-based app to help coordinate PPE donations between donors and hospitals. His MEng project is focused on the application of AI/ML models in predicting COVID-19 patient severity. In addition to tuning and experimenting with different architectures, he is also working on the explainability of these models to create more transparency into their decision-making processes.
